
Hearty old-fashioned oats with tart Granny Smith apples and cinnamon. |
Ingredients
- 1 cup 100% apple juice
- 1 large Granny Smith apple (or other variety), peeled, cored, and chopped into ½-inch pieces
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 cups old-fashioned oats
- 1 ¾ cups water
Instructions
- Combine apples, apple juice, and cinnamon in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Allow mixture to boil for 3 minutes, the reduce heat to low and simmer for another 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
- While apple mixture is simmering, prepare oatmeal.
- Bring water to a boil in a separate pot.
- Stir in oats and reduce heat to medium. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat.
- To serve, divide oatmeal evenly into 4 servings and top with apple mixture.
