Ingredients
- 1 pound dried red beans
- 6 cups water
- 1 cup low-sodium smoked turkey ham, diced
- 1 cup onion, diced
- ½ teaspoon pepper
- 1 teaspoon sodium-free all-purpose seasoning
- 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
- ¼ cup green pepper, diced
- 1 teaspoon salt substitute
- 2 cubes no-sodium beef bouillon
Instructions
- Sort beans and remove any shriveled beans, stones or debris. Rinse beans and pour into a large bowl. Fill with enough water to cover beans. Let soak overnight.
- Drain water and transfer beans to large pot. Add water, turkey ham, onions, pepper, all-purpose seasoning, garlic, green pepper, beef bouillon, and salt substitute.
- Simmer beans on low heat until tender, about 45 minutes.
